Andrew Wakely is running the Great North Run, raising awareness and funds for the Helen Hodgkins Trust.
This is an event that is so close to our heart as it takes place in the home town of Helen Hodgkins, the inspiration for our Trust.
Not only that but several times Helen watched her husband (and Trustee) John Hodgkins complete the run himself.
We wish Andrew the very best of luck for Sunday's run and thank him so much for helping to raise funds and awareness for our cause.
"I am running in the Great North Run, half marathon. I am by no means a runner with my short legs and would rather be on the bike, however, I like a challenge.
I have never been one to actively do events for charity but there are times when something or someone makes you stop and think.
I have been very lucky to meet a young lady by the name of Emma Hodgkins a few years ago who set up a charity in the name of her mother with the sole aim of helping others less fortunate than us. We all take for granted fresh water, and somewhere nice to live, as I type, I have a lovely cup of tea at hand.
Emma has worked so hard to set up the trust and spends most of her time fund raising to help people less fortunate than us to have something very, very simple: CLEAN WATER. I think it takes a very special type of person to do what Emma has done which is why I am asking for you to help me support her with the work she is doing. Unlike a lot of charities where there is a question as to how much of the fund raising actually goes to the help those who need it, it’s refreshing to find an ordinary person who wants to make a difference with the sole aim of raising funds so that 100% goes to those who need it.
Therefore, if you feel you would like to sponsor me in my efforts next week please do so here:"
Many Thanks to Andrew for supporting the Trust and good luck!
