Gyaekasa - Opening Our Borehole
Earlier this year, we reported that we had begun repairing a borehole in the community of Gyaekasa, one of the poorest communities we had ever visited. On our recent visit, the team formally commissioned the borehole and declared it open!
The whole community came out to celebrate the occasion and the village elders, including the Queen Mother, gave speeches giving thanks to the Trust and all our generous donors for giving them the gift of clean water. Trustee Martin also addressed the crowd, telling them of the endeavours of our fundraisers and wishing them good health for the future. The whole team then joined the villagers as the music blared and everyone started dancing!
The school at Gyaekasa is incredibly dilapidated and has few supplies. The team handed out new school uniforms to all of the children along with exercise books, pencils, erasers and chalk. We hope that this can become a long-term relationship with this community and we can support them further in the future.
